With its first edition in India, Ultra Music Festival, the biggest electronic music festival of the world is here with a line-up that has artists you might not be aware of but once you are, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the opportunity of seeing them live. So, here we are, letting you know about them. Get your earphones ready for you are now to go on a good musical journey as you read about them.
The headliner of the festival, do they even need an introduction? A New York City-based duo consisting of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, The Chainsmokers have a huge fan base in this century, attributed to their music that speaks to the party-loving, hungry for dancing youngsters and also, to the guest vocalists that they collaborate with, who are usually high profile artists. Their most popular song being, “Closer”that was released in 2016, the duo rose to fame in 2014 with their viral hit “#selfie”. Though, 2016 was their breakout year with “Closer” taking a space in the hearts of even those who weren’t aware of the duo and “Don’t Let Me Down” winning GRAMMY for Best Dance Recording.
Though their biggest achievement could easily be tying The Beatles and the Bee Gees with three simultaneous songs on the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10 with the releases of “Paris” and “Something Just Like This”
Getter (real name Tanner Petulla), also known as ‘the unsung hero of underground bass culture’ is not just a musician but also a comedian, from California. Starting out as early as at the age of 16 by uploading his productions on his soundcloud, he gained fame and recognition early on and since has collaborated with big names such as Datsik, Skrillex, Borgore, and The Frim. He stands out for regularly using heavy bass and “gnarly” synths in his music. He also has his own label and “Inhalant Abuse” being the first release of the label, wouldn’t disappoint anyone at all and make them look forward to new material.
Started out in 2014, the Los-Angeles based EDM duo Lost Kings, consisting of Robert Abisi and Nick Shanholtz has come a long way by melding woozy, party-minded grooves, house influences, and more mainstream electronic styles among other approaches while recording their music. The duo focused on remixes than original compositions and gaining popularity over that isn’t an easy task. In 2016, they released the official remix to Rihanna’s Work, which was one breakthrough for them. Their original compositions like “Phone Down” are also gems to check out.
Rezazadeh, popularly known as Rezz, had a different path to glory when Skrillex came across her through a blog and followed and sent her a message through twitter. Her album art, her music, her stage look, you are basically going to love everything about her. She was 16 when she started out with her experimentation in the music industry. Her breakthrough came when she signed to Skrillex’s record label, OWSLA and released Insurrection in July 2015. Her debut EP, The Silence Is Deafening, came out later in 2016 though, on mau5trap and the same year, she released another EP, Something Wrong Here which was #19 on the Billboard Dance Charts.
Sammy Renders, popularly known as Sam Feldt is a deep house music producer whose latest achievements include collaborating with Akon on his latest single – Yes. The Dutch DJ sailed the skies for his 2015 remake of Robin S.’ “Show Me Love” which was an instant hit and peaking at number 4 in UK Singles Charts. The single “The Devil’s Tears” was also one of Spotify’s top 10 most viral tracks.
Julian Scanlan, popularly known as Slushii is an American DJ, who had it tough to make it big but he did, and got support of Skrillex as well. As cute as his stage name is, his album art is even cuter and his music, try it and you might have a new favorite in your playlist. Aged just 20, he has a long road ahead in terms of survival and all you have left to wonder is, how much can he improve in all these years, from where he already is, because he is already too good.
Being Resident DJ of Ultra Music Festival since 2011 is no less of a feat a achieved by this DJ artist who happens to be a crowd favorite at other big stages like SPACE IBIZA, MANSION MIAMI or OPIUM BARCELONA. And with that said, its not a thing of wonder that he has shared the same DJ booth with artists like Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, and Deadmau5 to name a few. Starting out at just the age 0f 15, he is someone to look out for.
